(A) Undergraduate Queries


 

Q. What is the length of study at the FoT? 
 

All the study programmes at the Faculty of Study is four academic years of duration. It is an Honours degree (Sri Lanka Qualification Framework – SLQF, level 6). 

 

Q. What is the academic calendar? 
 

The Academic calendar for a programme includes the entire duration of the UG degree programme from the registration to the awarding of the degree. The academic calendar for an academic year includes two semester duration. One semester covers 15 weeks of study, exam review period, examination period and semester vacation (if applicable). 

 

Q. Where can I find the most up to date information about undergraduate courses?

Q. What is a credit system? 
 

The volume of learning is described in term of credits and the courses offered in the degree programme are designed in credit units. 
E.g. In general, 15 hours of face-to-face contact hours and 35 hours independent learning are considered as one credit for theory course. 

 

Q. How importance the attendance for classes?


80% attendance is a mandate to eligible to sit for the examination at each semester and for getting financial support (Mahapola or Bursary). 

 

Q. Do I have semester barrier in the programme?


Yes. A student who has failed to obtain  an Overall  Grade  Point Average (OGPA)  of  2.00 at  the end of  3rd  Semester (i.e., semesters 1, 2 and 3) will  not be  permitted  to register  for  the 5th Semester. 

 

Q. Does the curriculum has an Industrial training?


Yes. The industrial training has 6 months duration, outside the university. It is a 6 credits course. 

 

Q. How I become eligible to sit the semester examination?


Students should register to each academic year to become eligible for applying for the examinations, of the respective year of study; and have minimum of 80% attendance both for theory and practical classes to the relevant courses. 

 

Q. When is the effective date of my degree?


The effective date of degree shall be the date of the last examination or viva-voce examination of the independent research project (8th semester), whichever comes last to fulfil the requirements. But in the case of repeat candidates, if the repeat exam comes after the viva-voce examination of the 8th semester, the last date of the said examination will be considered as the effective date. 

 

Q. Do I have Fall Back Qualifications (FBQs) and Early Exist Pathway for the Undergraduate programme?


No Early Exist Pathway. But you have FBQs such as Diploma (SLQF 3), Higher Diploma (SLQF 4) and BBST (SLQF 5)

 

(B) General Queries


 

Q. Does the University have accommodation on campus? 

Yes, the University has a variety of accommodation. Find the Student Life page at our faculty webpage or contact Student Affairs Department. 

 

Q. What facilities are available at the campus?

Library, English Language Teaching, Computer labs, Learning Management Systems (LMS) for learning, Management Information Systems (MIS), email access, Wi-Fi facilities, Career guidance, Students counselling, Students’ hostels, Health Centre, Sports facilities, Banking & ATM, Cafeteria, Post Office and Religious places. 

 

Q, How can I submit medical reports for my absence to the class/Exams? 

If a student fails to appear for the examination due to illness should inform the Dean of the Faculty within 7 days from the date of examination and a Medical Certificate should follow within 14 days to reach the Dean, Faculty of Technology. The medical certificate should be certified by the Medical Officer of the University.


Q. Can I get medical assistance from the hospital during my stay at the campus?   

Yes. A government hospital is available within 3.5 km distance from the Campus. Further, a teaching hospital is also available at the Batticaloa, which is 18km from the campus. 

 

Q. What is the cost of living like for students living in EUSL?

The type of accommodation that you choose and your personal lifestyle will impact on your living costs. You should also budget for food, clothes, books and other lifestyle costs such as sport, leisure and social activities. 
 


Q. Is EUSL partnered with any other universities?

Yes. The EUSL signed MOUs with many International Universities (India, China, Thailand, UK) and National organizations (National Peace Council, AMCOR, MAG Group, Brandix Apparel Limited, UK Gate, etc.).
